Health centre (Malaysia)

A health centre is a euphemism for brothel in Malaysia. Because of laws against prostitution, it is not possible for the sex industry to operate openly unless they disguise their business. The health centres openly advertise innocent-sounding services such as massages, spas and 24 hour service. Inside, there are dozens of small bedrooms with an attached bathroom and shower, as well as a room where all the girls wait for customers to select them from a folder of photographs. The prostitutes come from all over Asia, mostly from Philippines and China and Indochina states like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Health centres are quite common throughout Malaysia, both in suburbs and town centres. They are usually operated by the Chinese gangsters.
