An international marriage agency, also called international introduction agency is a business that endeavors to introduce men and women of different countries for the purpose of marriage, dating or penpals. Agency methods and their client objectives vary widely. They are frequently referred to as mail order bride agencies, although many consider this derogatory and demeaning of the foreign women. Approximately 4,000-6,000 women come to the U.S. every year via these agencies. This is a small portion of the 100,000 to 150,000 eligible foreign women who advertise themselves on e-matchmaking sites each year.
