The value of sex as exercise depends on many factors, including the role of each participant in the sexual act. As the Dinah Project notes, "The amount of calories burned during sex is partially related to having an orgasm, which brings on a workout for the pelvic muscles, gets the heart rate up and the metabolism moving. But much more significant is the amount of energy we put in getting our bodies into place, holding them in place and performing acrobatics that without the sexual force pumping through our hearts and our genitals, we might never even imagine attempting." According to a Daily News Central article, "Statistics show that half an hour of sex can burn around 53 calories." However, "A vigorous romp can burn as many as 200 calories per half hour" according to Yvonne Fulbright.
